Concern for Baby Oral Hygiene

At around half a year old baby, parents need to be aware of your little one’s oral health and hygiene. The average age for the first lower central to erupt is six months. Parents can try using soft damp washcloth lightly cleanse their mouth. Gently wipe the new born teeth, gums, cheeks, hard palate and tongue to remove milk residual or other food leftover inside.

 

 It is not recommended to use fluoridated toothpaste until the age of 18 months. A baby has a very strong sucking reflex that will easily swallow the toothpaste. At 18 months a tiny bit of toothpaste can be applied to a child’s soft toothbrush. Oral hygiene can be done once to two times a day. Parents should check daily to make sure their teeth is clean and in good clean shape.

 

Tooth decay causes pain and infection that may lead to problems such as eating, speaking and learning.  The good news is that dental sealants and fluoride has the potential to nearly treat tooth decay in school-age children. To avoid all these problems, it is best for parents to teach your child the correct and importance of good strong teeth.
